  • Support Your Nervous System During the Holidays: TALK + WORKSHOP with MUGWORTS’ CLINICAL HERBALISTS

Mugworts is a collective of clinical herbalists, whose goal is to make herbal medicine accessible. Mugworts’ approach to herbal medicine holds both the larger context in which we exist as well as the specific experiences we live, and the ways in which the two are interconnected. Herbal medicine can also provide an alternative to the profit-based medical system we currently rely on.Mugworts’ herbalists have each completed a three year clinical herbalism program with the ArborVitae School of Traditional Herbalism with over 700 hours of study in Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, herbal energetics, anatomy and physiology, botany, and phytochemistry.   We have found that while the holiday season can be a time of joyousness and connection, it can also be quite stressful and exhausting. In Mugworts’ “Support Your Nervous System During the Holidays” class, you will learn about herbs and practices that will alleviate stress, regulate your nervous system, and offer protection. You will leave with an understanding of what herbs and practices you can incorporate to support your individual needs, and also have the opportunity to make your own protection amulet. Stress support tea blends + tinctures + informational zines made by Mugworts will be available to sample + purchase.Meet your herbalists:Franscis has a deep love and respect for the living world and all the beings that coexist together to create it. In her clinical work, Franscis strives to support people in their re-connection with, or re-membering of, the web of life that we are intrinsically part of.  Her goal is to support people in their unique needs and empower a sense of autonomy and agency.Lexi, a forever student, is constantly in awe and full of questions about the surrounding natural world and all its inhabitants. She truly believes that because we are part of nature, the natural world is where we should source our medicine for the healing of our whole body. When she is not practicing herbal medicine, Lexi can be found on the farm raising nutrient dense food to nourish her community.Combining her passion for knowledge and her love for the herbs, Ari aims to educate and make an herbalist out of each client by teaching them about the plants, their actions and how to make their own remedies. She believes herbalism is a lifestyle and her goal is to make it as easy as possible for people to incorporate natural alternatives into their daily lives.

  • Natural Dye Workshop

Come join designer Franscis Balken and learn to transform new and previously-worn clothing with natural dyes! This class will take you through the basics of mordanting, natural dyeing, and color modification.
Bring your white or light colored fabrics, and transform them with beautiful natural dyes. (Please note that animal fibers such as silk and wool will hold the dyes the best; flax, linen, and cotton will work but not produce as vibrant of a color. It is best if you prewash your fabrics. Please reach out to us at sideprojectgallery@gmail.com with any questions about which fabrics and items are suitable to bring.)

Ticket includes one silk bandana and one cotton tee shirt for dying and more will be available to purchase at the class*
Please wear clothing that you are comfortable getting dye on, or an apron, as there is the possibility that dyes can splash.
