From the March 3, 1991 issue of the New York Times Stylemakers:
"What's unique about my pieces is the fact that I'm able to get brilliant colors," said Ms. Evans, whose studio is in SoHo. "Most bright colors on ceramic have to be low-fired, which means they're soft. After 10 years of research and experimentation, I can get almost any color," she said. Working with an interior decorator, she said. "we can pull colors out of a fabric sample and create dinnerware that's custom designed for the client." Half artist, half scientist, Ms. Evans earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia in the 60's. "When I was young, I always wanted to be an artist -- a painter or a ballerina. My parents always said to me, 'Do something practical."
Ms. Evans's plates and other pieces may carry designs of polka dots, spirals, confetti or. herringbone. Her work is available through interior designers and in a limited number of stores.
"When I think of a dinner table, l'd like to see plates of a lot of different colors -- where every plate is a different color and every salad plate is a different color," she said. "I think that makes eating more fun".
